Graduate Workshops

APPLICATION DEADLINE: APRIL 15TH, 2022

IRES invites applications to its 10th Annual Graduate Student Workshop. The workshop is designed primarily for advanced students in economics, sociology & political science, but we welcome proposals from all disciplines.

The Workshop provides two days of intensive instruction, interaction, and feedback for a select group of advanced graduate students. Each student must have a completed paper, and all papers will be circulated and studied in advance. Sessions will center on presentations and discussion, with professors and students giving detailed feedback on each paper.

HOW TO APPLY

Applications should include a one page summary and CV. The one page summary should include your name, university affiliation, email, graduate advisor, and a 300-500 word description of your work. Send applications to IRES@chapman.edu no later than April 15th, 2022. If you already have a draft of your paper, please include it with your application.

ACCOMODATIONS

IRES will cover the cost of economy flights, hotel, and meals.

SIEPR will host a workshop on the Economics of Religion on October 28-29, 2022. Organizers Ran Abramitzky and Jared Rubin seek submissions at the intersection of religion and economics/political science/sociology. We will accept 12 submissions for the program.

To submit a proposal for consideration please email a title and an abstract of up to 500 words to ires@chapman.edu by May 13, 2022. Completed papers will be due on September 30, 2022.

Acceptance Date: June 17, 2022 (Completed Papers due by September 30, 2022)

A grant generously funded by the John Templeton Foundation will provide an honorarium that will more than cover all travel expenses for all participants who are selected. Chapman University’s Institute for the Study of Religion, Economics, and Society will cover lodging expenses.

A graduate student workshop – taught by leaders in the field and held in conjunction with the meetings of the Association for the Study of Religion, Economics and Culture

Faculty leaders will include Dr. Laurence Iannaccone and Dr. Jared Rubin (Chapman U.), Dr. Jean-Paul Carvalho (Oxford U.) and Dr. Avital Livny (U Illinois Urbana-Champaign).

Chapman’s Institute for the Study of Religion, Economics, and Society (IRES) and the John Templeton Foundation (JTF) will provide an honorarium (after the event), which will cover the cost of economy flights, transportation, and any meals not provided by the event. The hotel stay and conference registration will be paid directly by IRES and JTF.
